How is the weather in Algarve?

The Algarve is one of the sunniest regions of Europe and the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea, greatly influences the Algarvian climate. Summers are hot and dry, but not suffocating thanks to the Atlantic Ocean, and winters are mild with hardly any rain, combined with very inviting springs and autumns. 

With a warm climate and over 300 days of sunshine a year, the Algarve temperature is very soft and you can enjoy a great holiday throughout the year. If you are looking for a beach holiday, then the Algarve is the perfection destination once you can swim in the ocean comfortably from March until October. And in the winter months, you can take long refreshing beach walks.

 

Spring Weather in Algarve 

The Algarvian climate in Spring is fantastic and it is a lovely time to visit the Algarve with children. The days are long with 12 hours of sunshine a day on average and this the perfect time of the year for everybody who loves to enjoy the outdoors.
The average maximum Algarve temperature in March is 21 degrees during the day and the sea water is on average 16 degrees Celsius. The nights have an average minimum temperature of 9 degrees. So, on average, you can enjoy 8 hours of sunshine a day and during this season, you can enjoy a wonderful time in Algarve to explore the nature.

In May, the Algarve temperature is absolutely great, once the nights have an average minimum temperature of 14 degrees, being the right temperature for sleeping inside without the AC .

 

Summer Weather in Algarve 

June seems to be the perfect time to visit the Algarve, once the average maximum temperature is 28 degrees during the day and the nights are a lovely 17 degrees Celsius,. As the Algarvian temperature is warm during this season, the sea temperature is also very soft, around 19 degrees Celsius. 

If you have the opportunity to go on an early summer holiday, the prices in June are slightly lower than during July and August. So June seems to be the best time to visit the Algarve. At this time of the year, you may expect several hours of sunshine a day, wich is an excelent algarvian temperature for you to enjoy the outdoors, such as go surfing or even play golf. 

If not, August is the most popular month to visit the Algarve. The algarvian climate is fantastic all ove the year, the days in August are long and hot, with average temperatures rising well over the 30 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the nights continue to be hot, with minimum temperatures dropping to 19 degrees Celsius. Sleeping with airconditioning is a good idea during Summer.
The sea water temperature is excellent, bringing much needed refreshment on tanning days. August is the peak of summer and the Algarve is the place to be for sunseekers and lovers of hot temperatures.

Autumn Weather in Algarve 

If you are searching for a sunny autumn holiday in Europe, then the Algarve is your best choice. On most days of Autumn, the temperature may rise up to 30 degrees. In fact, due to the algarvian climate, September is a perfect month to go on a beach or pool holiday. 

Since summer continues all over September, the Algarve Sea Temperature is warm with 21 degrees, which is lovely for swimming or snorkeling activities. At night, you can go out without bringing a coat and with 12 hours of sunshine a day, you can really enjoy most of the day outside. With lesser crowds, September is an excellent month to have a relaxing end of summer break.
With an average of 25 degrees during the day, it is still a great time to hit the beach or relax by the pool. The sun shines for 7 hours a day so, during the nights it is advised to bring a coat, as the temperature drops to 14 degrees. 

 

Winter Weather in Algarve

If you like to escape the cold of December, then go to sunny Algarve. With Algarve temperatures of around 17 degrees during the day, you can enjoy the outdoors peacefully. During beach walks, you will find that most beaches are deserted. 

Due to the Algarve Temperature along the year, the sea has an average temperature of about 15 degrees during winter and it is still possible to surfers to hit the big waves during this season. However, at this time of the year, the Algarvian Climate is not so warm and especially the nights are now colder. 
A good reason to visit the Algarve in the winter, is taking the opportunity to escape the weather of your current country or hometown during this period of the year.
